Bachelor’s Thesis and Final Modules

Students in the major program complete a research seminar (9 ECTS) and the compulsory module Bachelor’s Thesis (15 ECTS) by the end of their studies. These two modules are closely linked. The research seminar lays the foundation for the Bachelor’s thesis, which is written in the following semester. Research seminars are only offered in the fall semester; Bachelor’s theses are only written in the spring semester.

The submission date for the Bachelor’s thesis is June 1.

Detailed information on completing your Bachelor's degree and the Bachelor's thesis can be found on the website of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Please read the information carefully.

Research Seminar

In their final year of study, major students take a research seminar from the "Final Modules" module group. These are offered each fall semester. In the seminar, students work individually or in teams on their own research project related to the research seminar topic. They develop a scientific research question and prepare its empirical implementation – as a basis for the Bachelor’s thesis in the spring semester. Part of the assessment is a research report, which includes:

  • Introduction to the topic, theory and state of research, research questio
  • Justification and planning of the methodological / empirical approach

Bachelor’s Thesis

The Bachelor’s thesis is an individual project in which you demonstrate that you can independently work on a scientific question within the specified time limit. It is written during the spring semester and supervised by the lecturer of the research seminar.

  • Prerequisite: successfully completed research seminar
  • After the research seminar, you prepare a proposal (exposé) for your Bachelor’s thesis, which serves as the basis for supervision.
  • The Bachelor’s thesis must be booked independently during the regular booking period (make sure to select the correct booking group).
  • After booking, you will be contacted by the Dean of Studies office via email to enter your supervisor and thesis title in the theses tool.
  • The submission deadline is: June 1
