Research dealing with science communication has also changed and increased. This field has recently been institutionalised at the University of Zürich, when Mike Schäfer was appointed Professor of Science Communication there.  A new book, Changing Science Communication (Wissenschaftskommunikation im Wandel), edited by Mike Schäfer, Silje Christians and Heinz Bonfadelli, provides some surprises.
