What is it?

The mailing list “kommunikationswissenschaft” spreads the latest information about IKMZ – the University of Zurich’s Department of Communication and Media Research –, about the study and other related areas.

The mailing list is moderated, meaning that messages are not sent directly to the list but are firstly approved by a moderator, provided that the messages comply with the mailing list rules.

The mailing list is considered an up-to-date supplement to the IKMZ’s printed information.
All students and other persons associated with IKMZ should definitely register for the list if they want to avoid missing out on important information!

How do I subscribe to the mailing list?

How do I send an email to the list?

Send the email to the following address:

kommunikationswissenschaft@ikmz.lists.uzh.ch

Do not forget to clearly state the sender / person responsible and ensure that you comply with the mailing list’s content rules (see below).

Note: The email will appear on the mailing list exactly how you write it so please do not send any requests/comments to the moderator! The moderator is unable to change or correct the email.

Moderation hours: Monday 8 a.m. to Friday 11 a.m. The mailing list is not moderated during holidays.

How do I unsubscribe?

Send an email with the following details:

If you do not send the email from the email account under which you are registered, you will need to add that email address to the command, for example:

unsubscribe kommunikationswissenschaft loeb@gmx.com

The corresponding email message confirms successful unsubscription.

Just to be clear: All members of the University of Zurich who possess a UniAccess account or an institute mail account are able to log in to Sympa using the respective password, even if they have not subscribed to a mailing list. External parties should click on “First login”.

Rules

The mailing list “kommunikationswissenschaft” spreads the latest information about IKMZ – the University of Zurich’s Department of Communication and Media Research –, about the study and other related areas.

The mailing list is moderated, meaning that messages are not sent directly to the list but are firstly approved by a moderator, provided that the messages comply with the mailing list rules.

The mailing list is considered an up-to-date supplement to the IKMZ’s printed information.

Content that will be published:

  • Subject-related event notices, brief conference reports, courses, project outlines, important dates, searches for project partners, about student assistants and test persons and similar.
  • The content shall be relevant to a wide group of people.
  • The mailing list is also open for job advertisements that are related to the subject.
  • The sender’s identity must be declared (first name and surname); a responsible person must be identified in the case of messages sent by organizations.
  • Requests looking for test persons must stem from the subject area. The supervising IKMZ professor must be named.
  • All mails will only be published once.

Content that will not be published:

  • References to events that are unrelated to Media and Communication Science.
  • Material searches for work.
  • Searches for cars, apartments or similar.
  • Mails with .doc or .docx attachments due to security reasons (.pdf is allowed).
  • Advertising mails from other universities, institutes, colleges, etc.
  • Polemic or offensive texts.
  • Mails that are likely to provoke negative responses on a broad scale due to the sender or the content.

The mailing list is moderated by a member of the IKMZ staff; he/she shall choose the postings on the basis of the criteria named above. The sender shall be informed if the mail is rejected.

The mailing list is operated by IKMZ – Department of Communication and Media Research of the University of Zurich. Changes to the publication rules must be approved by the IKMZ management. Complaints should be addressed to the Head of the Department.
